Dalai lama dog9/17/2023 ![]() ![]() The next big hurdle will be to bring Katie home, the final insult to the sensibilities of people who loved her. There is nothing to be done for it but to carry on. We feel each other’s pain, and are ready to take an ice pick to the person who dares to say, “It’s just a dog.” We all know the sad truth. No one knows the depth of sorrow one can have for a departed dog like another dog owner. We are sloppy with our tears, and unpredictable with our sobs, but there is dignity and gut wrenching sadness in the mute stoicism of a dog that is suffering his own loss. Seeing a dog mourn, we think, is worse than seeing it in ourselves. He searches our faces for some understanding of where his friend has gone, but sees instead the anguish of loss, and he doesn’t understand why. He waits, as taught, for his elder to go outside before him, but she’s not coming, and this youngster is now the oldest dog in the house. He sleeps on his pal’s favorite spots because it still smells like her. He searches room to room for the buddy that has moved on. Yes, there are many ways to mourn a dog, but none as eloquent as those expressed by the dog that’s been left behind. The Force, however, has been deeply disrupted by something far greater: The transition of the spirit and soul of one 30-pound black and hairy dog from her earthly binds to a new heavenly home Listening for the bark that warns us against everything and nothing, each a disruption to The Force, and thus, worthy of notification Extinguishing a nightlight put there just for her to see in the dark because where she is now, it’s dazzling Making room on the bed for someone who doesn’t need it anymore. Anticipating the sound they make before dinner, but hearing instead…………….nothing.Īccidentally squeaking their favorite toy, or rustling a bag of their favorite forbidden snack, but no one comes running Glancing at their favorite spot, but they’re not there. There are a thousand ways to mourn a dog. It may bring a tear, but perhaps that may be cathartic: We share something with you that we wrote when we lost our own dog, Katie, less than a year ago. Louis, we are so sorry for your loss, so recent and so raw. This entry was posted in Tibetan Mastiff and tagged buddha, Dalai Lama, Lhasa Apso, tibet, Tibetan Mastiff, Tibetan Spaniel, Tibetan Terrier. ![]() Tibetan Mastiff with child painting believed to be by Tang Jiang Perhaps word could spread in the Tibetan Mastiff community about the predicament of these wondrous dogs. The article at this linkis “safe” to see in that the photos and video it includes show no graphic abuse or cruelty, but it is beyond sad to see nearly 1,000 Mastiffs that have been abandoned in Yushu prefecture since summer living like cattle in a shelter doing its best to keep them. What was once a status symbol in China has fallen on very hard times. And here is where our story takes a turn. It’s said that some of the Tibetan Mastiffs found in the United States today are descendants of dogs given to Dwight Eisenhower. Some sources say the fate of the dogs is unknown, but another source reports that Darby gave one of the dogs to the famous explorer, Lowell Thomas. In the 1950s, His Holiness gave a pair to President Dwight Eisenhower as a diplomatic gift (though one source writes that it was a mistake because Eisenhower had requested two Tibetan Terriers).Eisenhower gave the puppies Senator Harry Darby who raised and bred them. ![]() Two of the dogs were posted at each of the four entrances to the estate. The Dalai Lama with his five year old Tibetan Terrier, ‘Senge,’ in India circa 1968īefore he was forced into exile, the Dalai Lama kept eight Tibetan Mastiffs to guard his summer home in Norbulinka. In addition to Lhasa Apsos having been bred and kept in the Potala, the palace and monastery of the Dalai Lama, His Holiness’ own dog was a Tibetan Terrier named, “Senge.” ![]() Valued in Tibet as companions and guards of temples, several native dog breeds emerged from that country. When Buddha called all the animals to him, only twelve showed up, and in recognition of their loyalty, he dedicated a month to each of them in the Tibetan calendar, the dog being one of the twelve (2006 was the most recent dog year, the next occurs on Februwhen it becomes the Earth Dog year). So, on to the post:īuddhists live in accordance with a creed that does not harm any living creatures, but Tibetan Buddhism has a special connection with dogs. If this post ends differently than where it started, now you know why. Here we were, writing a benign piece about an uncommon breed when a concerning article was sent our way. Note: In the course of writing this post, an article came to our attention that some would say was “spooky” in its timing. ![]()

Dryland flutter kick9/16/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() For example, improving ankle strength can improve your flutter kick. ![]() There are ways to improve the flutter kick through incorporating different types of techniques. Once you have gotten the kick, then you can begin to add your arms for more of a challenge. With those seven steps, you should be able to begin the flutter kick. Your arms should be above your head, one hand on top of the other hand, and do not forget to point your toes. Once you feel yourself losing momentum from the push off the wall, begin the flutter kick. When you emerge into the water, straighten your body so that you are horizontal. Do this by pushing yourself off the pool wall using your legs.Step 7: Try to flutter kick without any water equipment. Again, holding your head out of the water to breathe is acceptable, but you may not find yourself to be horizontal. ![]() Remember to adjust the strength and speed of your kick according to your body position. Get into a horizontal position and begin the flutter kick. Use a kickboard in the pool and use it as a support by holding it in your hands out in front of you.Step 6: Try moving in the water by practicing the flutter kick with a kickboard. This will prepare you to start moving in the water with the flutter kick. See if you can maintain the flutter kick as well as a horizontal position in the water.Step 5: Start slowly letting go of the pool wall or edge. However, if your legs are rising up too much, then allow your back to float towards the surface of the water or kick at a lower strength and speed. For example, if your legs are sinking in the water, then try pushing your chest further down into the water. If you are having trouble during this time, that is okay. Do this a couple times and begin increasing the speed until you are kicking in a quick pace. Keep one leg down while the other floats up.Step 4: Now try alternating legs to kick. Remember to keep in mind that your legs and feet should stay in the water while kicking. Continue following the directions from step 2 on the opposite leg.Step 3: Repeat step 2 with the opposite leg. Do not forget to point and slightly turn inwards your toes to also minimize dragging within the water. When doing it correctly, the power driven in your hip will naturally move the knee slightly. The slight bend in the knee will allow the facilitation of the kicking action, but remember to not bend it too much otherwise it will create a drag. Push one leg down in the water by slightly bending the knee and pushing the water down on top of your foot.Step 2: Begin moving one leg up and down. However, you can take your head out of the water to breath, but remember that it will be more difficult to be horizontal and to stabilize your body in the water. Ideally, you want your face submerged in the water so that your body stays horizontal. Allow your body to extend so that it is as horizontal as possible in the water. Do this by holding onto the pool wall or edge.Step 1: Try the flutter kick in a stationary position. Learn how to do the flutter kick correctly with these couple of steps. The flutter kick is a basic skill in swimming the front crawl. Simply, all you have to do is move your legs up and down (one leg kicking downwards while the other leg moves upwards). The flutter kick is not only meant to drive a swimmer forward, but it is also to keep the legs up and help the assist and stabilize the upper body and body rotations for the arms. Nonetheless, the flutter kick is commonly used in different strokes, like freestyle or backstroke. The flutter kick is a kicking movement used in both swimming and exercise. ![]()

Ipad compatible with pencil9/16/2023 ![]() The Apple Pencil gives artists almost everything they need to sketch, draw, and colorize artwork on their touchscreen device. #alt# Image of an iPad with a drawing of snails wearing sunglasses in a car, with a hand holding an Apple Pencil over it. While Apple hasn’t revealed any pressure sensitivity levels for the Apple Pencil, the stylus is diverse enough that professional artists are able to create incredible works of digital art without resorting to specialized equipment like Wacom tablets or expensive desktops. Notetakers using GoodNotes 5 or Notability ( comparison here) can emphasize key points in their notes by pressing down harder while using the fountain pen tool. With creative apps like Procreate or Adobe Fresco ( comparison here), artists can adjust the size, texture, and consistency of the brushes and erasers they use to paint and draw. What’s more: Many app developers have also discovered how to take advantage of these unique features. That’s a major difference between what you’ll see in third party styluses for Android and iPad devices, which may only provide limited pressure sensitivity - if they even offer it at all.īecause the tip of the Apple Pencil understands how hard or soft you press against the screen, it’s possible for iPad users to create everything from handwritten text to incredible digital artwork, like lettering and calligraphy, without any other specialized tool. Instead, the Apple Pencil uses emitters to determine angle, tilt sensitivity, and applied pressure. Teardowns of Apple Pencil units have shown that the device isn’t capacitive - meaning that it doesn’t conduct a charge through the screen like your finger does when you touch the iPad. Pressure & tilt sensitivityĪnother major advantage of the Apple Pencil comes down to sensitivity when touching the stylus to your screen. #alt#Victoria Pritchard’s hand holds an Apple Pencil as she draws a face on her iPad. iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations).iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th generations). If the case doesn’t have a spot for the stylus, you’ll have to keep track of it separately. You may also need to rethink your case selection if you want the Apple Pencil to accompany your iPad in its magnetically locked position. The Apple Pencil can be knocked off your iPad with relatively little effort, and some accessories can interfere with charging. Rather than a fully cylindrical body, this version also features a flat side to prevent it from rolling away.īecause this Apple Pencil attaches magnetically to your iPad and charges wirelessly, it’s easy to park it on the side of your iPad and use it when you need it.īut, be warned: While the magnetic adhesion feels firm, it isn’t foolproof. Overall, the device feels sturdier and nicer to hold, and the new material allows Apple to offer free engraving if you want to personalize your Apple Pencil. Here's how I did a case-insensitive search trying to find the same typeahead files with the find command: If for some reason you can't find your files with the Linux locate command, or your system doesn't have the locate command installed, you can also try searching with the traditional Unix find command. ![]() To search my entire filesystem for files and directories that contain the string typeahead, just use this command:Ĭase-insensitive file searching with the find command It's easy to perform a case-insensitive file search with the Linux locate command: just add the -i flag. Case-insensitive file searching with the locate command Both the find command and the locate command have command-line options that provide this support. I was happy to learn that both of my favorite Unix and Linux file-finding utilities support case-insensitive file searching. While trying to remember where I put it I realized I was going to have to do some case-insensitive file searching. Give it a try and let me know what you think of pdfgrep.Earlier today someone asked for the source code for my TypeAhead predictive-text, type-ahead, auto-complete JNLP Swing application. A reason why I like pdfgrep is that it tries to be compatible with GNU Grep. Pdfgrep is a very handy tool if you are dealing with PDF files and want the functionality of ‘grep’, but for PDF files. I do not have a password-protected file to demonstrate with, but you can use this option in the following manner: pdfgrep -password Conclusion All you have to do is use the –password option, followed by the password. Yes, pdfgrep supports grep-ing even password-protected files. Look closely at the time indicated by ‘real’ value.Īs you can see, the commands that include –cache option were completed faster than the ones that didn’t include it.Īdditionally, I suppressed the output using the –quiet option for faster completion. To show the speed difference, I used the time command. Twice with cache enable and twice without cache enable. While not the be-all and end-all, I carried out a search 4 times. Let’s try doing a basic search for the text ‘xdg’ in the PDF file. The syntax for pdfgrep is as follows: pdfgrep Normal search ![]() It’s one of the few Linux books that are legally available for free. To demonstrate, I will be using The Linux Command Line PDF book, written by William Shotts. If you have any experience with grep, then most of the options will feel familiar to you. Now that pdfgrep is installed let me show you how to use it in most common scenarios. You can use your distribution’s package manager to install this awesome tool.įor users of Ubuntu and Debian-based distributions, use the apt command: sudo apt install pdfgrepįor Red Hat and Fedora, you can use the dnf command: sudo dnf install pdfgrepītw, do you run Arch? You can use the pacman command: sudo pacman -S pdfgrep Using pdfgrep command Though it doesn’t come pre-installed like grep, it is available in the repositories of most Linux distributions. You can use to search for text inside the contents of PDF files. Several of your favorite grep options are supported (such as -r, -i, -n or -c). Pdfgrep tries to be compatible with GNU Grep, where it makes sense. Meet pdfgrep: grep like regex search for PDF files This is where pdfgrep comes into the picture. ![]() It won’t work on PDF files because they are binary files. Check out some common grep command examples if you are interested.īut grep works only on plain text files. It can do crazy powerful things, like search for new lines, search for lines where there are no uppercase characters, search for lines where the initial character is a number, and much, much more. Grep is used to search for a pattern in a text file. Even if you use the Linux command line moderately, you must have come across the grep command. ![]()

Al packer ford tires9/16/2023 ![]() ![]() To produce LNG, natural gas is purified and condensed into liquid by cooling to –260☏ (–162☌). ![]() Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) - Natural gas can be liquefied to store more energy onboard a vehicle in a smaller volume. The interest in hydrogen as an alternative transportation fuel stems from its clean-burning qualities, its potential for domestic production and the fuel cell’s potential for high efficiency (two to three times more efficient than gasoline vehicles). Hydrogen - The simplest and most abundant element in the universe. Unlike batteries, fuel cells convert chemical energy from hydrogen to electricity (see Electric Drive Vehicle). Fuel cells are being considered as a way to use electricity generated onboard the vehicle to power electric motors. Electricity - Electricity used to power pure electric vehicles (as opposed to electric hybrids) is generally provided by the electricity grid and stored in a vehicle’s battery. When used as transportation fuel, it is typically stored onboard a vehicle in tanks at high pressure (up to 3,600 PSI). Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) - Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons predominantly methane (CH4). It provides substantial benefits but avoids many of the cold-weather performance and material compatibility concerns associated with B-100 (pure biodiesel). B-20 is the most common biodiesel blend in the U.S. B-20 - A blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel. ![]() B-10 - A blend of 10% biodiesel and 90% petroleum-based diesel fuel. It is normally blended with conventional petroleum-based diesel fuel for use. It is produced from renewable sources such as new and used vegetable oils and animal fats, and is a cleaner-burning replacement for petroleum-based diesel fuel. Biodiesel - A liquid fuel composed of fatty acid alkyl esters, fatty acid methyl esters or long-chain mono alkyl esters. Alternative fuels currently in use or under development include: E-85 - A blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline that is used to fuel E85-capable flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs), which are available in a variety of models from U.S. In North America, conventional vehicle fuels are normally defined as gasoline and petroleum-based diesel. Alternative Fuel Any non-conventional fuel used to power a vehicle. The most common systems are straight electric, hybrid electric and hybrid hydraulic drives. Alternative Drive Systems Any vehicle drive (propulsion) system other than a conventional internal combustion/mechanical transmission system. Air resistance increases as a square of the speed, thus power requirements increase much faster than vehicle speed. Air Resistance A measure of the “drag” on a vehicle moving through air. ![]() Air Dam Flexible air deflecting panel usually located below the radiator support. AF (Axle-to-Frame) The distance from center of rear axle(s) to end of frame. Electrically driven systems can be optimized to operate at a fixed speed, thereby increasing efficiency and making them compatible with hybrid vehicle propulsion systems. Accessory Load Electrification The conversion of common vehicle accessory loads (power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, air compressor, etc.) from being engine-driven (belts or gearing) to being driven by electric motors. Dewalt router table mount9/16/2023 ![]() ![]() Quality router tables will include multiple base plates that complement different router hole patterns, making them compatible with routers from most major tool brands. Likewise, a wider table will provide better support for wider boards. A table that is 22 inches to 36 inches long can support boards between 6 and 8 feet long. A router table’s work surface ranges in size from about 22 inches long by 16 inches wide, up to 36 inches long by 24 inches wide. The size of a router table directly correlates with how large a workpiece it can handle. The upsides to benchtop routers are that they’re more compact and weigh less, and are thus more portable than freestanding models. As their name implies, benchtop router tables also require a workbench for support and are not as stable as single-unit freestanding models. Since benchtop router tables are typically smaller-they measure approximately 16 inches wide and 24 inches long-they can’t accommodate the same size boards that larger freestanding router tables can. The downside of freestanding router tables is that they’re heavy, which makes them difficult to transport to work sites. Most freestanding router tables measure approximately 32 inches long and 24 inches wide. Freestanding tables typically have sturdy bases and large work tops, which can accommodate longer and wider boards. Many users prefer freestanding router tables over benchtop router tables, and with good reason. Read on to learn about these and other considerations. Some factors you may want to consider include the table’s size, portability, material, base plate style, and compatibility with your router. When shopping for a router table, consider both the size of your workshop and your brand of router.
